Treasure Trove was founded by patriarch, Jerry Broder in 1946 on G Street, just a few steps from our current location. Over a career that spanned seven decades, Jerry developed a huge following and a love affair with Washington. Although he passed away in 2008, not a day goes by without an old customer stopping by and wanting to talk about him and what a great guy he was.
In 1974, Jerry’s oldest son, David, graduated from The University of Maryland and joined the business full time. In 1979, his brother Marc did the same. In 1995, David’s wife, Susan, joined the team. Together, the sales staff at Treasure Trove has over 90 years of combined experience working at Treasure Trove and are fully committed to keeping the traditions and the spirit of the founding father. We offer what only a family owned and operated business can: personable, knowledgeable, superior service and commitment combined with a relaxed and casual atmosphere.
Treasure Trove Is In New York City, Too
In the mid to late 1970’s, the demand for jewelry and new, contemporary designs began to explode for both men and women. By then, Treasure Trove was employing as many as three jewelers to meet this demand, making and creating anything and everything you could imagine. Along the way, it became apparent that buying jewelry components and assembling them ourselves was far less expensive than buying already finished products from jewelry companies. So why not apply this knowledge to a larger scale and mass produce our own jewelry lines? Not only could we cut out middle men, have lower prices, we could make anything we wanted and at any time. The problem was three jewelers were not nearly enough to do the job. We needed jewelry factory but they only exist in New York City’s Diamond District. These factories, known as jewelry contractors, were all large firms whose clients were big jewelry companies. None had ever or wanted to work with an entity like ours. We were too small. Finally, we found one who would. By the mid 1980’s, Treasure Trove was producing nearly all of its own mounted jewelry.
Twenty five years later, our jewelry contractor is right on 47th Street. Within a few blocks is our own network of diamond, gemstone, and mounting companies. Our presence there combined with our expertise and experience means we do things that other jewelers can only dream of.
Bigger Is Not Aways Better
While jewelry consumers assume that Kay Jewelers is in direct competition with Jared and J.B. Robinson. But, the fact is that Kay’s, Jared, and J.B. Robinson are all one company giving you more of the same, trading under different names. The fact is that lots of management, debt, and advertising are all costly expenses that are passed on to the customer – you. Treasure Trove has none of these expenses. That is why our prices are significantly lower.
We Offer The Best Of Both Worlds
You will find Treasure Trove to be the fun, charming shopping experience you would expect from a family owned business. But no store around also embraces innovation and technology like we do, either. Jerry Broder hated to say no to any customer or worse to have one go to one of our competitors. He taught his sons the same tenacity. As you browse through this website, you will notice that we do just about anything and everything that has to do with jewelry. He would be pleased to know that once you visit us, we will do our best to never give you a reason to go anywhere else.
